Trudy Field
I love interpreting, a job I’ve been doing for over 24 years and I love teaching which I’ve been doing in one form or another for 29 years.
I love seeing the ‘penny drop’ as people I’m teaching suddenly ‘get it’. When it comes to teaching about interpreting, I aim to teach theory in a way that is directly related to interpreter performance.
People can be overly critical of themselves and another one of my aims is to help students be honest with themselves about how they are improving while still accepting the challenge of constant development. I always try to give people manageable tasks that lead to the interpreters achieving their learning objectives.
Jonathan, Rebecca and I firmly believe that as teachers of interpreters we should be practitioners, so that what we teach on our course is never detached from the real job ‘out there’. We feel students benefit from this approach.
