The 180 Interpreter Training Course
The 180 Interpreter Training Course is a two-year part-time taught programme. The skill development year consists of 18 sessions of tuition which includes coaching on interpreting, English and ethical frameworks. When students are assessed to be operating at an appropriate level to collect evidence, they will move in to the evidence collection year. The evidence collection year is more structured and includes additional interpreting coaching, evidence collection opportunities and support to create the portfolio for the NVQ Level 6 qualification.
On successfully completing the course, and the assessment process, students will achieve a Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Sign Language Interpreting and will be be eligible to register as a Registered Sign Language Interpreter (RSLI). We will support students’ applications to register as Trainee Interpreters (TI) as appropriate through the course.
The curriculum and structure of the 180 Interpreter Training Course has been specifically designed to be flexible. The course is tailored to each student’s needs regardless of background or experience within the domain of BSL/English Interpreting. This course aims to enable students to exceed the requirements of the National Occupational Standards in Interpreting.
As the course is delivered on a one-to-one basis we can start delivering the training at any time following the entry assessments.
The course will be taught in a mutually convenient location for the tutors and the student. Some shorter training sessions are provided through Skype/Facetime but we feel that meeting in person achieves the best learning so we prioritise this.
